Nutrition Program for the Elderly / Meals on Wheels
The Nutrition Program for the Elderly addresses nutritional and social needs of seniors in Wayne County through the Congregate and the Home Delivered Meals programs. The Congregate Nutrition program promotes the health and well-being of older people through a nutritious meal and provides opportunities for health, education, social, recreation, and other community activities. Congregate meals are provided at the following sites:
The goal of the Home Delivered Meals Program (Meals on Wheels) is to improve or maintain the health of impaired older persons by providing nutritious meals, a daily check and reporting system, and a social contact to enable the homebound to remain in their home as long as possible.
All meals are delivered by volunteers daily Monday through Friday between 10:30 a. m. and 12:30 p. m. Volunteers are an integral part of the program and often the only person the recipient sees all day.
If you have a heart for seniors and are interested in helping out with deliveries, call Andrea Bone, volunteer coordinator, at 919-734-1178 ext. 281.
Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom keeps our volunteers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds. Louise Howell gets ready to deliver Meals on Wheels at Kirkwood.
